Floor demolition and prep across the Greater Tampa Bay Area
A new floor is only as good as what's underneath it. King Flooring & More handles every step before installation: old floor removal, haul-away, dust control, slab moisture testing, and leveling - so your new tile, hardwood, LVP, or laminate lays flat and stays flat.
We work on every flooring type we install - glue-down tile, nailed-down hardwood, floating laminate, and vinyl - and we arrive with the right gear for a concrete slab: chipping hammers, ride-on scrapers, HEPA vacuums, and self-leveling compound.

What's included in our demo and prep service
We work to a fixed scope so there's no negotiating mid-project. Every job includes the same baseline checklist.
- Full removal of existing flooring (tile, hardwood, vinyl, laminate)
- Plastic sheeting and HEPA vacuum dust control
- Old material haul-away and disposal
- Slab inspection for cracks, moisture, and structural issues
- Moisture testing with calibrated meters
- Self-leveling compound to flatten high and low spots
- Final sweep so the new-floor crew can start immediately

Why dust control matters more than people think
Old thinset, tile adhesive, and mastic can contain silica and, in homes built before 1990, sometimes asbestos - and there are plenty of those scattered through the Greater Tampa Bay Area's older neighborhoods. We seal off work areas with plastic, run HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, and wear proper PPE, which is standard on a commercial job but rare on a residential one. You shouldn't be scrubbing dust out of your kitchen for weeks after we leave.

Slab prep - the step most installers skip
A concrete slab that's out of level by more than 1/8" over 6 feet will cause LVP and laminate joints to fail within months, and tile set over an uneven slab will crack. We level every job to manufacturer-required tolerances with self-leveling underlayment and patch any soft spots before we call the slab ready. It's the difference between a floor that lasts and one that gets pulled up again in three years.

Floor Demolition & Prep - frequently asked questions
Yes - haul-away and disposal is included in the demo price. You won't be left with a pile of old tile or planks at the curb.
We use HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, plastic sheeting, and ground-source vacuums on chipping tools. Compared to a typical contractor demo, you'll see far less dust settling in adjacent rooms.
We check during the estimate. If your slab is within manufacturer tolerance (typically 1/8" over 6 feet), no leveling is needed. If it's not, we quote the leveling separately so you see the exact extra cost.
Vinyl tile and mastic from before 1990 sometimes contain asbestos, which shows up now and then in the Greater Tampa Bay Area's older housing stock. If we suspect it, we pause the job, send a sample for testing, and bring in a licensed abatement contractor before resuming prep work.
