Hardwood that's made for Florida, not just installed here
Augusto Ferreira started King Flooring & More in 2020 with a simple setup: one crew, no showroom overhead, and a free in-home estimate instead of a sales floor. Hardwood is one of the floors homeowners ask about most, and it's also the one where local know-how matters most - a floor that looks great in a brochure can cup or gap apart in a Tampa Bay summer if it's the wrong construction for your house.
Almost every home across the Greater Tampa Bay Area sits on a concrete slab, not a basement or crawlspace, and that single fact should drive most of your hardwood decisions. We'll walk you through solid vs. engineered hardwood honestly during your estimate instead of pointing you toward whatever's sitting in a warehouse.

Why engineered hardwood wins in most Tampa Bay homes
Solid hardwood nails into a wood subfloor - something most homes here don't have. Engineered hardwood is real wood over a cross-layered plywood core built to resist the swelling and shrinking that comes with humidity swings between rainy season and the drier winter months. It glues or floats directly over a slab, which is why it's what we recommend on the large majority of jobs we quote.
- Stable over concrete slab foundations - the norm from Brandon to Tampa to Clearwater
- Handles humidity swings through the June-November rainy season without cupping
- Real wood wear layer - sands and refinishes like solid wood
- Available in wider planks and finishes solid wood usually can't match

Solid hardwood still has a place
If you own one of the older pier-and-beam homes around historic Tampa or Plant City, solid hardwood can still be the right call, and we install it. For nearly everything else in the Greater Tampa Bay Area, engineered is the more sensible, longer-lasting choice for our climate.

What a King Flooring hardwood project looks like
There's no showroom to visit - we bring samples straight to your kitchen table so you see the color under your own lighting. Once you pick a floor, our small crew handles removal of the old flooring, moisture testing on the slab, installation, and cleanup. Have hardwood already but it's looking tired instead of replaced? Ask about hardwood refinishing. Want a staircase in matching wood? See hardwood stairs.

Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions
Solid hardwood generally does not - it needs to nail into wood. Engineered hardwood is built for exactly this situation and glues or floats directly over your slab, which is why it's our go-to recommendation across the Greater Tampa Bay Area.
Properly installed engineered hardwood handles the humidity swings of a Florida summer just fine. The real risk during storm season is standing water from a leak - if that happens, call us quickly so we can dry and assess the floor before it needs replacing.
Usually. We bring samples in your existing species and stain so we can match within a shade or two. If an exact match isn't possible, refinishing your existing floor alongside the new area is often the cleanest fix.
We don't - King Flooring & More is home-based, which keeps overhead (and your price) down. We bring a full set of samples to you for a free in-home estimate instead, on your schedule.
Most the Greater Tampa Bay Area homes are finished in 2 to 4 days depending on square footage and whether we're also removing old flooring.
