From historic bungalows to new builds

Hardwood flooring in Tampa, FL

Tampa has some of the most varied housing stock in the Bay Area, from century-old Hyde Park bungalows with original heart pine floors to brand-new construction in New Tampa built straight on a concrete slab. We install and refinish hardwood across all of it, and we adjust our approach to match the house.

For most slab-built homes we recommend engineered hardwood, which holds up better to Tampa's humidity than traditional nail-down wood. If your Tampa home already has original hardwood under it that's just tired-looking, ask us about hardwood refinishing before assuming you need a full replacement.

Engineered Hardwood for Slab Homes

Most Tampa neighborhoods built from the 1970s onward — Westchase, Carrollwood, New Tampa — sit on a concrete slab, so engineered hardwood is typically the better fit than solid wood. It's glued or floated directly over the slab and built in layers that resist the swelling and gapping that Florida humidity can cause in solid wood.

Refinishing Historic Hardwood

Older Tampa neighborhoods like Hyde Park and Seminole Heights often still have their original hardwood hiding under old flooring, sometimes decades old. Hardwood refinishing can sand down years of wear and bring that original wood back to life for a fraction of what full replacement would cost.

Solid Hardwood & Stairs

When a Tampa home has the right subfloor for it, we do install real solid hardwood flooring, and we build and finish hardwood stairs to match either solid or engineered floors. It's a common upgrade in two-story South Tampa homes near Bayshore Boulevard.

Hardwood flooring questions in Tampa, FL

Often, yes. Many Hyde Park and Seminole Heights homes still have solid hardwood under later flooring layers, and refinishing it is usually more affordable than tearing it out and starting over.

For newer slab construction we almost always recommend engineered hardwood — it gives you the real wood look and feel without the humidity risk that comes with solid wood over a slab.
